Don Phillips
Chief Executive Officer
Morningstar, Inc.

Don Phillips joined Morningstar, Inc. in 1986 as the company's first analyst. He soon became editor of the company's flagship publication, Morningstar Mutual Funds, and established the editorial voice for which the company has become known. Phillips helped develop the Morningstar style box, category ratings, and other distinctive, proprietary Morningstar innovations that have become standards in the industry.

The company has become the leading, independent financial publisher of unbiased mutual-fund and stock information for professional and individual investors. Phillips was named vice president and publisher in 1991, president in 1996, and CEO in 1998.

The company's newly-redesigned Web site, Morningstar.com was named one of the top investment Web sites for the past two years by Barron's, and is among the top investing sites named by The Wall Street Journal. Money magazine calls Morningstar.com "the indispensable mutual fund site to bookmark." SmartMoney has called the site one of the "10 most valuable sites for investors," and Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine includes Morningstar.com as one of the best all-around fund Web sites.

Phillips' candor has made him a favorite source for the financial press. He has appeared often on CNN, CNBC, Nightly Business Report, and Wall $treet Week with Louis Rukeyser, and is regularly sought for insight on stories in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes, Money, and numerous others.

Phillips was included on a list of Wall Street's Smartest by Worth magazine, named one of the most influential people in the mutual-fund industry by SmartMoney, and chosen as a member of the Ultimate Investment Club by Money magazine in 1999. He was also honored as the 1997 Fund Leader of the Year by Fund Action.

Phillips holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and a master's degree from the University of Chicago.
